Alopecia totalis : The person loses all hair on the scalp, so the scalp is completely bald.

Alopecia universalis: The person loses all hair, leaving the entire body hairless. This is rare.

What causes alopecia areata?

It is caused by an abnormality in the immune system that damages hair follicles. This particular abnormality leads to autoimmunity, a misguided immune system that tends to attack its own body. As a result, the immune system attacks particular tissues of the body. In alopecia areata, for unknown reasons, the body’s own immune system attacks the hair follicles and disrupts normal hair formation.

Treatment For Alopecia Areata At ISAAC LUXE Clinic

Corticosteroid Injections

To stimulate hair regrowth, our dermatologists administer corticosteroid injections directly into the affected bald areas. These injections are typically scheduled every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on your needs, so you’ll need to visit the clinic regularly for ongoing treatment.

Minoxidil (Rogaine®)

Minoxidil is a well-known treatment that helps maintain hair growth stimulated by other therapies. For best results, it should be applied 2 to 3 times a day. It’s effective for promoting hair growth on the scalp, beard area, and eyebrows.

Topical Corticosteroids

This medication is applied directly to the bald spots once or twice daily as prescribed by your dermatologist. While effective, it tends to yield better results in children than in adults for hair regrowth.

Anthralin

Anthralin is another topical treatment that you apply to the affected areas. After leaving it on for the time recommended by your dermatologist, it should be washed off. The treatment may cause some skin irritation, but combining it with minoxidil can enhance results.
