Is PRP For Hair Safe

Things to Avoid Before and After PRP Treatment

Over the past few months, PRP treatment has gained tremendous popularity among skincare and haircare enthusiasts. The reason is simple – it is powerful, reliable, and effective. It uses your own blood to do the magic.

However, there are some things to keep in mind. Whether you are opting for PRP for pigmentation, glowing skin, acne scars, or hair thinning, one thing remains constant: your pre- and post-treatment care plays an important role.

This blog lists important things you must avoid before and after your PRP session to keep your scalp or skin beautiful and healthy.

Before PRP Treatment: Things to Avoid

Anti-inflammatory Medicines

Avoid NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen, aspirin, and other such medicines for at least 3-5 days. This is because PRP triggers a natural healing response, and these medicines weaken that effect.

Alcohol, Smoking, and Caffeine

These substances interfere with hydration, blood flow, and platelet quality. So, keep a distance from them for 48-72 hours before the treatment.

Long Hours in the Sun

Sunburned skin or sun-tanned skin is more sensitive and may react inappropriately during PRP. So, minimize your sun exposure and always wear sunscreen.

Harsh Skincare and Hair Products

Stop using exfoliants, retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, chemical peels, and strong serums 48 hours before your session. If you are opting for PRP for hair, avoid colouring or chemical treatments at least a week before.

Heavy Workouts and Excess Heat

Avoid steam rooms, hot yoga, saunas, and extremely sweaty workouts 24 hours before your appointment, as heat can irritate the skin.

After PRP Treatment: Things to Avoid

Touching or Rubbing the Treated Area

Avoid touching, massaging, or applying pressure on your skin or scalp constantly for at least 8-12 hours after the treatment.

Makeup and Strong Skincare

Don’t apply active ingredients like acids, vitamin C, retinol, or scrubs for 48-72 hours and also avoid makeup for 20 hours.

Alcohol, Smoking, and Caffeine (again!)

Avoid these substances for 2-3 days after treatment to support healing and collagen production.

Direct Sunlight and Heat Exposure

Your skin becomes a little sensitive after PRP treatment for a few days. So, avoid direct sunlight, steam, hot showers, or strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours.

Anti-inflammatory Medicines

Avoid taking NSAIDs for 3-7 days after treatment, as they can affect your body’s natural healing process.
