What causes dark circles?

There are a number of contributing factors for dark circles. Some common causes of include:

Sun overexposure

Overexposure to the sun can cause your body to produce an excess of melanin, the pigment that provides your skin with color. Too much sun — particularly for your eyes — can cause pigmentation in the surrounding skin to darken.

Genetics

Family history also plays a part in developing dark circles under your eyes. It can be an inherited trait seen early in childhood, and may worsen as you age or slowly disappear. Predispositions to other medical conditions — such as thyroid disease — can also result in dark circles beneath your eyes.

Fatigue

Oversleeping, extreme fatigue, or just staying up a few hours past your normal bedtime can cause dark circles to form under your eyes. Sleep deprivation can cause your skin to become dull and pale, allowing for dark tissues and blood vessels beneath your skin to show.

Lack of sleep can also cause fluid to build underneath your eyes, causing them to appear puffy. As a result, the dark circles you see may actually be shadows cast by your puffy eyelids.

Age

Natural aging is another common cause of those dark circles beneath your eyes. As you get older, your skin becomes thinner. You also lose the fat and collagen needed to maintain your skin’s elasticity. As this occurs, the dark blood vessels beneath your skin become more visible causing the area below your eyes to darken.

Eye strain

Staring at your television or computer screen can cause significant strain on your eyes. This strain can cause blood vessels around your eyes to enlarge. As a result, the skin surrounding your eyes can darken.

Allergies

Allergic reactions and eye dryness can trigger dark circles. When you have an allergic reaction, your body releases histamines as a response to harmful bacteria. Other than causing uncomfortable symptoms — including itching, redness, and puffy eyes — histamines also cause your blood vessels to dilate and become more visible beneath your skin.

Allergies can also increase your urge to rub and scratch the itchy skin around your eyes. These actions can worsen your symptoms, causing inflammation, swelling, and broken blood vessels. This can result in dark shadows beneath your eyes.

Dehydration

Dehydration is a common cause of dark circles under your eyes. When your body is not receiving the proper amount of water, the skin beneath your eyes begins to look dull and your eyes look sunken. This is due to their close proximity to the underlying bone.

TREATMENTS AVAILABLE AT ISAAC LUXE FOR DARK CIRCLES-

At ISAAC Luxe, we first do a complete medical check to rule out and work on any deficiencies that could be causing dark circles. With a combination of at-home skincare routine that may include eye creams, we at ISAAC Luxe may advise you to opt for the following treatments.

Dermal fillers

At Isaac Luxe, dermal fillers are used to treat dark circles. Also known as tear trough filler, it is an injectable treatment that’s used under the eyes. Its purpose is to add volume beneath the eyelids. The product most often used in this area is one typically made of hyaluronic acid, although other ingredients may be used. Hyaluronic acid is a gel-like substance that naturally exists in your body. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic acid increases fullness and decreases indentations.

Eye Light

With peptides complex, GF complex, and botanical stem extracts, ISAAC Luxe’s Eye Light is a non-invasive 30 minute therapeutic treatment for dark circles and wrinkles. We start by cleansing the undereye area and then use our patent eye contour serum that helps hydrate the area. Then, we gently use a dermaroller on the under eye area as well as below the eyebrow. By micro-needling and making those tiny injuries in the skin, you’re putting collagen production into overdrive and literally thickening that skin. We then use a patent eye mask enriched with antioxidants, peptides and other ingredients. The session finishes with an application and massage of our specialised eye cream.

Chemical Peels

We offer a variety of AHA and BHA peels that help improve skin texture, pigmentation and dark spots around the under-eye area.

Laser treatment

As our skin gets older with time, we can tighten the skin with the help of the most advanced lasers at ISAAC Luxe. Laser treatments generate heat and stimulate the production of collagen, thereby reducing the appearance of dark circles.

Pre & Post Treatment Care, ISAAC Luxe

The number of sessions needed to treat the dark circles depends on the condition of the skin and your age. You can resume back to your original lifestyle soon after getting the treatment done. However, you must stay away from dust and avoid rubbing your eyes vigorously after the treatment.Stay away from the sun and apply sun block on the treated area very gently. For 2-3 days, you are also supposed to keep away from eye makeup.
